Carl Pierson is the Parish Commissioner for the 3rd District of Caddo Parish in Shreveport, Louisiana. He has served as a commissioner since 1999.  He was the President of the Caddo Parish Commission in 2003 and again in 2007.

Pierson is committed to Promoting economic diversity for all citizens; to providing an increase in funding for programs that affect the elderly; to creating proactive crime prevention programs and to juvenile justice intervention programs.

When he is not legislating, Pierson is a supervisor of Health, Physical Education, Athletics and Drivers Education for the Caddo Public Schools in Shreveport.  He has held various positions within the school System including, assistant principal, instructor of biology, physics, physical education and coached football, basketball, track, gold and tennis.  Pierson served as the Director Caddo Parish Schools Athletic Department for 36 years.

Pierson also serves on several committee and boards including the LA Police Jury Association 2nd Vice President, the Caddo Parish Community Action Agency President, the Caddo Parish Commission Ways and Means, the Caddo Parish Commission Juvenile Justice and the Caddo Parish Commission Charter Review Committee.

His accomplishments are numerous over his political and academic career.  Highlights include:

    Supported cell phone program (111) for elderly in Caddo Parish
    Supported funding for Caddo Council on Aging (Meals on Wheels)
    Supported funding for Martin Luther King, Jr.’s health center
    Supported National Chimp Haven Sanctuary
    Supported veterans cemetery located in Caddo Parish for all veterans
    Supported locations for approximately 17 General Motors suppliers in Caddo Parish
    Voted one of the ‘Ten Most Influential People’ in bringing athletic events to Shreveport (1997)
    Louisiana High School Athletic Director of the Year (1991)
    Service award for Leadership as chairman of the Advisory Council for Shreveport Parks and Recreation (1990)
    The P.R.I.D.E. award presented by the Shreveport/Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau (1989)
    Merit Award, Shreveport Parks and Recreation (1988)
    Service Award as Co-Chairman USA-AAU Girls National Basketball Tournament (1988)
    The P.E.P.I. Award given by Louisiana Association for Health Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (1987)

A great leader, Pierson continues to have a strong presence in his community through direct involvement with Choir President at the Little Union Baptist Church; Vice President of Board of Directors Little Union Learning Center; Milam Street Development Board Association member; Vice President Caddo Community Action Agency; Southern University Alumni Association member; AAU Basketball Coach and a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

The center of his life remains her wonder family: his wife Shirley Johnson Pierson and children Carl, Jr., Carlos, Niki and John.
